According to the revised data of Statistics Estonia, 1,328,976 persons lived in Estonia on 1 January 2020, which is 4,156 persons more than at the same time a year earlier. In 2019, the population figure decreased by 1,302 persons due to negative natural change, but increased by 5,458 persons as a result of positive net migration.

More than three-quarters of households have mobile internet connection

According to Statistics Estonia, 88% of Estonian households had internet connection at home in 2017. The share of households using mobile internet connection has reached 82%, increasing by four percentage points in a year.
This Saturday is the last day to complete the e-census

Statistics Estonia invites all Estonian residents to fill in the census e-questionnaire by Saturday. So far (by January 16), 450,000 persons, or around 35% of the Estonian population, have been enumerated based on the short five-minute questionnaire.

According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, in 2012 the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 3.2% compared to the previous year. In the 4th quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter of 2011, the GDP grew by 3.7%.
In the second quarter, construction volume decreased by 8%

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2020, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 8% year on year. Considering only the Estonian construction market, the construction volume decreased by 5%.

Today, on 25 February, the Statistical Council held a meeting where they reviewed last year’s results and commended the production of official statistics, but the Council also acknowledged that the statistical system continues to be underfunded. The Council was briefed on the methodology approved by Statistics Estonia for the Population and Housing Census: namely, a register-based census, which is in accordance with EU regulations, combined with a sample survey to collect data on characteristics not covered by registers.
Passenger and goods transport through ports increased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, compared to 2018, the number of passengers on main national ship lines increased by 4% and in international traffic by 0.3%. The freight volume of ports in tonnes increased by around 5%.
