What is official statistics? Official statistics are public information that reflect the social situation and changes in the society. Official statistics are produced on the basis of the Official Statistics Act and in accordance with the principles and quality criteria laid down in Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council. The production of official statistics is guided by the needs of the society or the European Union statistical programme. Statistical thresholds In 2024, the statistical threshold for the dispatches of goods is 350,000 euros (last year, it was 270,000 euros). It means that, in 2024, Intrastat data have to be submitted by those enterprises whose turnover of goods dispatched to European Union countries exceeded 350,000 euros in 2023. If enterprises exceed the statistical threshold in 2024, they will also have to submit Intrastat data. At the end of the year, on 28 December, the Population and Housing Census, conducted every ten years, starts in Estonia. Everyone living in Estonia is invited to complete an online questionnaire for the census by 22 January 2022. In February, census takers will call or visit the people for whom filling in the questionnaire is mandatory.

Today, Statistics Estonia is launching the largest and most comprehensive relationship survey in Estonia so far, titled “Safe relationships within family, at work and outside work”. The purpose of the survey is to get an overview of well-being and safety in relationships. An invitation to participate in the survey is sent by post to over 16,000 people.

In the Population and Housing Census, which starts at the end of the year, among else, people will be able to give an assessment of their health. Health questions in the same wording were also included in the census ten years ago, which is why the results will provide an overview of Estonian people’s health and how it has changed in a decade.
