Today, on 25 June, Statistics Estonia published the June results of the surveys that measure the economic confidence of enterprises and consumers.

The number of international students decreased last year but their tax contribution increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in the academic year 2024/25, international students studying and working in Estonia contributed 16.6 million euros in taxes. In the same period, international graduates of the academic year 2023/24 contributed 7.5 million euros as labour taxes in Estonia. Throughout the analysed period (2017–2025), international students and graduates have contributed over 317 million euros in taxes in Estonia.

The share of innovative enterprises in Estonia is growing

According to Statistics Estonia, 65% of Estonian enterprises have introduced product or process innovations. The share of innovative enterprises is the highest in financial and insurance activities and in information and communication.

Latest business and consumer survey results published by Statistics Estonia

On 26 May, Statistics Estonia published for the first time the results of the surveys that measure consumers’ and enterprises’ economic confidence. The data are published in the statistical database.

Average wages increased by 5.6% last year

Electricity production decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the production of electricity totalled 12 terawatt hours, which is 6% less than in the previous year. Electricity production from renewable sources increased by 8%.

In July, the decline in industrial production was caused by energy and mining

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2019, the production by industrial enterprises decreased 5% compared to July 2018. Production increased in manufacturing, but decreased in both energy and mining.

Turnover growth of retail trade enterprises continued in July

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2019, compared to July of the previous year, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 5% at constant prices and was 661 million euros.

Economic growth slowed down in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 3.6% in the 2nd quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year.

The methodology for calculating the national accounts data changed

Statistics Estonia revised the national accounts time series from 1995 onwards. As a result of all corrections, the annual gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices changed on average by 0.8% in 1995–2018.

The turnover of the business sector increased in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, enterprises sold goods and services for 16.2 billion euros, which was 6% more than in the same period the year before.

In the second quarter, the average wages and salaries were 1,419 euros

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased by 7.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2018. The average hourly gross wages and salaries were 8.22 euros, which is 9% more than in the same quarter of 2018.

Statistics Estonia released a publication on children’s well-being

Children’s Subjective Well-Being in Local and International Perspectives, a publication of Statistics Estonia, was presented at the international child well-being conference in Tartu. The aim of the publication is to show the complexity of understanding children’s well-being.

Construction in foreign countries continued to boost construction volume

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased by 3% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2018. Similarly to the 1st quarter, construction volume increased due to work done in foreign countries, whereas construction volume on the domestic market decreased.
