According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2021, there were 10,542 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. The number increased by 30% year on year. More than 12,000 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.

Based on the results of the public choice competition, in the younger age group, Estonia will be represented at the European Statistics Competition by team Fresiito from Tallinn Secondary School of Science and team Mamika from Lüganuse School. In the older age group, due to the withdrawal of one of the teams, team Numbritaat from Viljandi Gymnasium and team Merkintä from Narva Pähklimäe Gymnasium moved directly to the European phase of the competition.

In the first week of December, Statistics Estonia launched the Time Use Survey. The survey takes place every ten years and will end in 2021. Information is collected about how and where people over the age of 10 spend their time and what modes of transport they use.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2021, there were 9,443 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This means a 10% increase year on year. More than 7,000 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.
Population census: the share of people of foreign origin who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has grown

Data from the register-based population and housing census of 2021 reveal that 72.5% of Estonia’s population is made up of native people, i.e. persons with at least one parent and grandparent born in Estonia. At the time of the previous census, the share of the native populace was 75.3%, which means that the proportion of natives in the population has decreased by 2.8 percentage points, while the share of the foreign-origin population who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has increased.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2024, the population of Estonia was 1,366,491, which is 607 persons more than at the same time a year ago. In 2023, there were 10,721 births and 15,832 deaths in Estonia. Based on the data on registered migration, 20,209 persons immigrated to Estonia and 14,491 persons emigrated from Estonia. Compared with a year earlier, the number of births, deaths and immigrants has fallen, while the number of emigrants has risen.
