Starting from January 2026, Statistics Estonia uses a new methodology to calculate the consumer price index (CPI). The CPI classification has also been updated, with price changes now tracked across 13 main groups.

In August, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 394,000 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments in August 2015, which was 4% more than in August 2014. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.

In August foreign trade decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2015, exports of goods decreased by 6% and imports by 3% compared to August of the previous year. The decrease in exports was mostly influenced by a fall in the trade of electrical equipment, metals and products thereof, and mineral products.

Consumer price index decreased for the 4th consecutive month

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in September 2015 was -0.6% compared to August 2015 and -0.7% compared to September of the previous year.

In August, the growth in retail sales decelerated slightly

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2015 compared to August of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 8% at constant prices. In July, the retail sales increased 9% compared to the same month of the previous year, whereas in August the retail sales growth decelerated slightly.

In August, the volume of industrial production decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2015, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 3% compared to August of the previous year. Production decreased in manufacturing and energy production but increased in mining.

Population Trends

Last year, the gender pay gap decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2014, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 23.3% lower than the gross hourly earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Estonian Statistical System received a high rating from Peer Reviewers

Eurostat published the report of the Peer Review of the Estonian statistical system. In the report, the Estonian Statistical System was concluded to be of high quality. However, the Peer Review team also identified areas where improvements should be made.

More than a half of the harvest has been gathered

According to Statistics Estonia, by 15 September, 78% of the sown area of cereals, 57% of the sown area of rape and turnip rape, and 52% of the area under potatoes had been harvested in Estonia.

General government surplus was adjusted

According to the adjusted data of Statistics Estonia, in 2014, the Estonian general government surplus was 0.8% and the gross debt level was 10.4% of the gross domestic product.
