The results of the Estonian Social Survey show that Estonian people are happier than Latvians and Lithuanians but not nearly as happy as the residents of Finland and Sweden. People prefer e-commerce while enterprises prefer cloud services
According to Statistics Estonia, 56.5% of the population aged 16–74 used e-commerce in the last three months. Compared to last year, the overall popularity of e-commerce has remained the same, but the amounts spent on purchasing goods and services have increased. The results of the enterprise survey showed that more than half of the companies using the internet use paid cloud services.

In July, the exports of goods of Estonian origin increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2020, compared to July 2019, the exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports by 6%. The decline in exports was mainly due to a fall in re-exports, whereas the exports of goods of Estonian origin grew.

The winners of the European Statistics Competition for the academic year 2019–2020 were announced yesterday, 7 September. In the younger age group, team Fresiito from Tallinn Secondary School of Science won the third place.

Sharp increase in the number of people leaving work on employer’s initiative
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2020, there were 8,088 vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. Compared to the second quarter of 2019, the number decreased by 28%. In the second quarter, 39,540 persons were hired and 50,184 persons left work. Every fourth person left on the employer’s initiative.

In July, domestic tourism was popular
According to Statistics Estonia, in July, 346,000 tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments. Their total number of nights spent was 652,000. Compared to July 2019, the number of tourists dropped by a third, but the number was higher than in the last few months.

In August, transport and electricity had the biggest impact on the consumer price index
According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in August 2020 was 0.6% compared to July 2020 and -0.9% compared to August 2019. Compared to last year’s August, goods were 0.3% and services 2.0% cheaper.

Electricity production in Estonia moving in an environmentally friendly direction
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, the production of electricity totalled 7,560 gigawatt-hours, which is 39% less than in the previous year. Electricity production from oil shale decreased by 46%.

For enterprises, the Agricultural Census offers benefits and transparency
Today, 1 September, marks the beginning of the 2020 Agricultural Census in Estonia. The census, which is organised every ten years, lasts until 15 November. Statistics Estonia expects around 11,600 agricultural holdings to participate in the census.

The volume of industrial production reached last year’s level
According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2020, the production of industrial enterprises was the same as in July 2019. Production decreased in manufacturing but increased in energy and mining.
