The number of international students decreased last year but their tax contribution increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in the academic year 2024/25, international students studying and working in Estonia contributed 16.6 million euros in taxes. In the same period, international graduates of the academic year 2023/24 contributed 7.5 million euros as labour taxes in Estonia. Throughout the analysed period (2017–2025), international students and graduates have contributed over 317 million euros in taxes in Estonia.

In the 1st quarter unemployment increased among men

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2012, the unemployed persons numbered 79,600 and the unemployment rate was 11.5%. During the two last quarters the unemployment has slightly increased due to the growth of unemployment among men.

The number of students in general education is decreasing

According to Statistics Estonia, the number of students in general education has decreased by nearly 20,000 during the past five years. While the number of students in the first grade will increase in the coming years, the number of students in secondary education will decrease.

Industrial production decreased in March

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2012, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 6% compared to the same month of the previous year. The decline in the production was most of all influenced by the manufacturing of electronic and metal products and electricity.
