What kind of survey is it? The Estonian Health Interview Survey assesses the health status of the Estonian population, the factors influencing it, and the use of health services. The 2025 survey consists of two parts: the core survey, which is part of the fourth wave of the European Union Health Interview Survey and part of the official statistical programme; 18 additional voluntary questions that specify Estonia's needs in shaping health policy. According to Statistics Estonia, one of the most important population development indicators — life expectancy — has shown an increasing trend in Estonia in case of women as well as men during the last decade. Due to a higher life expectancy, women outnumber men at the age of 65+ by two times.

Statistics Estonia revised the population figures for 2000–2013 based on the data of the 2011 census and various registers. According to the revised data, the estimated population number of Estonia as at 1 January 2014 was 1,311,870 by preliminary estimates.

According to the revised data of Statistics Estonia, 1,319,133 persons lived in Estonia on 1 January 2018, which is 3,499 persons more than at the same a year earlier. In 2017, the population figure decreased by 1,759 persons due to natural increase, but increased by 5,258 persons as a result of positive net migration.
