As at the end of last year, 232,400 cattle, 283,600 pigs, 49,300 sheep and goats, and 2.4 million poultry were kept in Estonia. The number of cattle fell to an all-time low. Ege Kirs, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that meat production in Estonia was up in 2024 due to the 6% increase in pork production. “However, poultry production decreased by 3% and beef production by 5%. Researchers and officials have a special interest to find out through the census how many people living in Estonia have two nationalities and speak two mother tongues. Although information on nationality and mother tongue is also available in the population register, it is the first time that it is possible to choose two options in the census questionnaire.
