The population figure shows how many people live in Estonia at the beginning of the year. The population includes Estonian citizens as well as foreign nationals and stateless persons residing in the country. A person is considered a resident if they have lived in Estonia for at least one year or intend to live here for at least one year.

A household usually consists of people who live in a common dwelling, share a budget and food, or both. Households change over time: when a child grows up and becomes financially independent, he or she leaves one household and starts a new one. A person living alone forms a single-person household. At the end of the year, on 28 December, the Population and Housing Census, conducted every ten years, starts in Estonia. Everyone living in Estonia is invited to complete an online questionnaire for the census by 22 January 2022. In February, census takers will call or visit the people for whom filling in the questionnaire is mandatory.
Foreign tourists have found their way back to Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, Estonian accommodation establishments served over 3.43 million tourists, which is 5% more than in 2022. The number of foreign tourists increased last year, while the number of domestic tourists decreased.

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2021, Estonian accommodation establishments served 381,000 tourists, which is a tenth more than in the same month last year. The number of domestic tourists increased compared to both July 2020 and July 2019, while the number of foreign tourists remained significantly smaller than in previous years.
