The number of Finnish tourists tripled in November

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2022, Estonian accommodation establishments served nearly 226,000 tourists, which is 35% more than in November 2021. There was a rise in the number of both foreign* and domestic tourists.

Growth in foreign trade in services slowed down in the first quarter

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 2%, while imports were unchanged from the same period last year. Sales of services to non-residents totalled €2.8 billion and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to €2.2 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €595 million, which is €45 million more than a year earlier.

The number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased in October

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2022, Estonian accommodation establishments served nearly 270,000 tourists, which is 19% more than in October last year. The number of foreign tourists* rose, while the number of domestic tourists fell.

Estonian residents are travelling more and more

According to Statistics Estonia’s Tourism Survey*, Estonian residents made more trips in the first half of 2023 than in the same period of 2022. Finland and Latvia are the most popular destinations, and many trips are also made to Italy and Turkey.

Short-term labour market statistics (2024)

From 2025 onwards, Statistics Estonia will no longer update short-term labour market statistics. The publication of short-term labour market statistics was based on a commissioning contract and the contract expired in 2024. Interactive charts give an overview of the labour market in Estonia based on the data of the employment register. They show changes in the number of employment relationships: how many were started, suspended or terminated. There is also a time series of the changes in these indicators. General government deficit decreased last year, the debt level was stable (corrected on 24.03.2023)

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the Estonian general government deficit was 1% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 335 million euros.

Employment rate

The employment rate shows the share of employed persons in the working-age population. The data are collected with the Labour Force Survey. An employed person is someone who worked during the reference period and was paid as a wage earner, entrepreneur or freelancer. An employed person is also someone who worked without direct payment in a family enterprise or own farm, or was temporarily absent from work.
