On 21 December, Liina Osila started as the project manager for the Population and Housing Census at Statistics Estonia. She will be overseeing the organisation of the 2021 census.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2021, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 6.6% compared both to the fourth and the first quarter of 2020.

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in May 2020 was -0.7% compared to April 2020 and -1.7% compared to May 2019. Compared to May of the previous year, goods were 1.5% and services 2.0% cheaper.

Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia, stated that the total number of vacant and occupied posts in the first quarter was a little over 594,000. “The number of vacant posts was the highest in education (1,274) and in public administration and defence (1,254). The number of occupied posts, however, was the greatest in manufacturing (97,736),” she said. The Population and Housing Census continues in February but on a smaller scale and mainly as phone interviews. Home visits, which were used during the previous census, will be kept to a minimum by Statistics Estonia, to prevent the spread of any viruses.

Today, Statistics Estonia presented at a press conference a comparative survey of household and place of residence data. The survey, taking place from May until October, is conducted to test the quality of the methodology of the register-based population and housing census. 30,000 persons will be surveyed.
