International Men's Day is celebrated this coming Sunday, 19 November. Epp Remmelg, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, took the opportunity to find out how the Estonian man is doing.

Statistics Estonia presents today, on 29 July, the publication “Eesti statistika aastaraamat. 2011. Statistical Yearbook of Estonia“, which gives an overview of the life in Estonia last year in comparison with earlier years and other European Union countries.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, 21.6% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 6.3% in absolute poverty. The overall percentage of people living in relative poverty decreased 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous year, the percentage of people living in absolute poverty decreased 1.7 percentage points.

According to Statistics Estonia, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 13.7% in 2014 compared to the average of 2013. In the annual comparison, the prices of apartments increased by 15.5% and the prices of houses by 9.1%.

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with September 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, motor fuel and oils, and miscellaneous goods and services. “Among food products, the biggest increases compared with September last year occurred in the prices of juices and syrups, which rose by 57.1%, and the prices of olive oil, which increased by 56.3%. On the other hand, the prices of sugar decreased by 20.1%,” noted Veski. In September, petrol was 11.9% and diesel

According to Statistics Estonia, in October, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 884 million euros. Compared with October 2022, turnover fell by 5% at constant prices.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2023, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,812 euros, which is 10.4% higher than in the same quarter last year. The median wages were 1,500 euros, which is 11.2% more than in the third quarter last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2014, the Dwelling Price Index changed by 1.1% compared to the 1st quarter and by 14.5% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2013, 22.1% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 8% of the Estonian population lived in absolute poverty.

Today, in the first minutes of 31 December, the eleventh Population and Housing Census began in Estonia. Until the end of January, residents can participate in the Census online, since mid-February enumerators will be visiting homes.
