According to the preliminary calculations of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 3.6% compared to the previous year. In the 4th quarter, GDP decreased by 9.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2013, exports of goods grew by 19% and imports by 16% at current prices compared to January of the previous year. Foreign trade was influenced by the non-recurrent big-volumed trade transactions with transport equipment.

Exports to the euro area countries comprised 29% of Estonia’s total exports and imports from euro area 38% of total imports.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2013 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 2.2 billion euros, which is 0.7% more than in 2012. According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2009 exports of goods at current prices decreased 26% and imports 36% compared to the same period of the previous year. The decline in trade was announced in most commodity sections, the biggest decrease was in exports and imports of machinery and equipment.
