According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 4% compared with the second quarter of 2023. On the domestic construction market, volume fell by 3%.

The total number of vacant and occupied posts stood at a little over 609,000. 50,365 persons were hired. 76% of job vacancies were in Harju county.

Statistics Estonia, commissioned by the Education and Youth Board, analysed for the fifth time the economic contribution of working international students and international graduates. Although the number of international degree students in Estonia was down from the previous years, international students paid 16.6 million euros in income and social tax in the academic year 2022/23, and graduates from the year before contributed 6.9 million euros. For students, this is 2.5 million euros more than in the previous academic year, while for graduates it is 1.5 million euros less.

Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that, as in the first half of the year, when the volume of manufacturing declined by 6%, the fall continued at the same rate in August. “Also, as in the previous months, the volume of industrial production was down in two thirds of the manufacturing activities,” Bunder added. According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 5.8% at constant prices compared with July last year. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 16.9% in mining and by 16.3% in electricity production but decreased by 7.8% in manufacturing.

According to the results of the register-based population and housing census of 2021, there are 341,995 families in Estonia, of which almost half, or 49%, are two-member families. Compared with the previous census, there are fewer families, but the number of people living in them has risen. 154,625 families (or 45%) are raising minor children and 16% of the population lives alone.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 851 million euros. Compared with March 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover* fell by 4%.
