Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that while Estonian residents have been travelling more in the post-pandemic years, they did less travelling in 2025. “Last year, the number of overnight domestic trips was still more than two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. Compared with 2024, the number of domestic trips decreased in each quarter. In June, the enterprises’ confidence indicator was the highest in trade (+20.5); it was +3.1 in the services sector and -3.8 in the industry sector. This was the seventh time that Statistics Estonia was commissioned by the Education and Youth Board to analyse the tax contribution of international students who work in Estonia during and after their studies. In the academic year 2024/2025, there were 3,951 international students in Estonia. 3,418 of them had an Estonian personal identification code and their labour market participation could be studied using pseudonymised codes. 1,752 (51%) of the analysed students worked in Estonia while studying. What is Intrastat?
Intrastat (Intra-EU Trade Statistics) is the special data system for collecting statistics on the trade in goods between the Member States of the European Union (EU). The Intrastat system became operational in 1993 with the creation of the EU Common Market when the customs checks on the EU internal borders disappeared. This meant that the production of foreign trade statistics using the data from customs declarations was no longer possible. Consequently, it became necessary to collect the data directly from economic units engaging in foreign trade.
