Everyone living in Estonia is welcome to fill in a short e-questionnaire for the Census

From today until 22 January 2022, the e-questionnaire for the Population and Housing Census is open. Everyone living in Estonia is welcome to respond to the e-census. Only people who are included in the survey sample may expect a phone call or visit from a census taker if they have not filled in the e-questionnaire.

Volume of retail trade turnover down by 1% in May

Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises started to decline in May, after a period of growth since the beginning of the year. “This was due to stores selling manufactured goods where the volume of turnover was down by 5% year on year. “Compared with the first quarter, labour market indicators have improved, but remain below the figures for the second quarter of 2024,” said Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in September 2020 was -0.3% compared to August 2020 and -1.1% compared to September 2019. Year on year, goods were 0.7% and services 1.7% cheaper.

Statistical Council gave a recommendation on the organisation of the register-based census

The Statistical Council, formed by the order of the Government of the Republic, convened on 26 November. At the meeting, the results of the second trial census of the population and housing census were presented. The Statistical Council supports the decision of Statistics Estonia to combine the register-based census with sample surveys.
