  3. Retail trade volume up by 2% in March
Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the rise in the volume of retail trade turnover in March was driven by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods. “On the other hand, the decline in the turnover volume of grocery stores accelerated in March, as the turnover volume of these stores was down by 7% year on year,” added Pihlak. The volume of turnover in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel increased by 15% compared with March 2024. “The increase in the turnover volume of these enterprises was

  3. Producer price index of industrial output down by 0.5% in December
Eveli Šokman, the producer price statistics service manager at Statistics Estonia, said that, year on year, the producer price index declined in December after three months of trending upwards. “Compared with December 2024, the index was affected the most by falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils and in electricity and heat energy production. Higher prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, peat production, and the manufacture of food products had the opposite effect on the index,” added Šokman. In manufacturing as a whole, the index was unchanged year on year. In the

  3. According to revised data, economic growth is yet to be seen
Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that the GDP, which had shown growth in the fourth quarter last year, was again down a little in the first quarter this year. “A month ago, we published a model-based flash estimate which suggested that the economy might be slightly improving. However, the flash estimate underestimated some irregular factors in the fourth quarter. Vehicle sales were exceptionally high in the fourth quarter in anticipation of the introduction of the motor vehicle tax from 2025. But the model could not fully foresee the significant

  3. In November, the consumer price index was up by 4.9% year on year
Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that food prices are the main driver of overall inflation, as food products have the biggest weight in the consumer price index. “The prices of food products decreased in September and October but started to increase again in November,” added Veski. Compared with October, food products were 1% more expensive in November. The biggest impact came from the rise in the prices of vegetables (1.9%), cheese (3.3%), fresh or frozen fish (7.7%) and bread and bakery products (2.7%). Decreases in the prices of fresh fruits

  3. GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 0.9% in Q3
Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, noted that initial signs indicate a slight improvement in the economy compared with both a year ago and the previous quarter. “The seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP was up by 0.2% from the second quarter of 2025,” Müürsepp added. What is a flash estimate of GDP? The official data on GDP for the third quarter will be published on 1 December, but based on the information already available, it is possible to assess the overall economic trend. This is done using, for example, trade indicators, transport and manufacturing

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the last time the consumer price index fell compared with the previous month was in March this year, when it was down by 0.5%. However, the last time we saw such a big drop as we are seeing now was nearly three years ago, in October 2022. “Compared with September last year, the rise in the consumer price index was primarily driven by food prices, which were up by 7.7%,” Veski noted, commenting on the year-on-year increase in the index. Among food products, the most significant year-on-year price increases were
