According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2022, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 22% while imports of services fell by 10% year on year. In the first quarter of this year, Estonia’s exports of services totalled 2 billion euros and imports of services 1.5 billion euros.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that foreign trade in services continues to grow steadily and reached a record level in 2024. “Exports of services were most affected by an increase in sales of telecommunications, computer and information services (up by €459 million) and imports by a rise in purchases of travel services (up by €134 million). Jane Leppmets, a foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that growth in foreign trade in services was most affected by travel services and other business services. “In the third quarter, exports of services to EU countries increased by 8% and imports from EU countries by 4%. Extra-EU exports of services were also up by 8%, however, extra-EU imports were down by 4%. According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the second quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports and imports of services both grew by 3%. Exports of services totalled 3.1 billion euros and imports of services 2.3 billion euros at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by 802 million euros, which is 39 million euros more than in the second quarter last year.

Data from the population and housing census conducted at the end of 2021 show that on average in Estonia, people’s homes are older than they are, and the number of households living in private houses has increased.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the labour force participation rate was 71.9%, the employment rate was 68.1% and the unemployment rate was 5.4%. The number of long‑term unemployed was the lowest of the last 20 years.
