  3. The rise in retail trade volume slowed down in April
Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that retail trade volume, which had grown by 7% in March year on year, did not grow as fast in April. “In April, the increase in the volume of retail trade turnover was influenced by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods,” added Pihlak. The turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel increased again in April but at a significantly lower rate. “Compared with April 2025, the turnover volume of these enterprises was up by 3%,” said Pihlak

The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods had not fallen since November 2025,” explained Pihlak. “The turnover volume of grocery stores did not start to rise in May – it remained at the same level as in May last year,” added Pihlak. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises was up by 1% in December year on year and grew even more in January. “The rise in retail trade volume in January was mainly due to stores selling manufactured goods, where turnover volume rose by 6% compared with January 2024,” explained Pihlak.
