Statistics Estonia’s survey on information technology in households shows that inhabitants of Estonia are active users of the internet, but businesses need to protect themselves from security threats.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, 90% of households had internet connection at home and it is used daily or almost daily by 98% of 16–44-year-olds. Enterprises contribute increasingly to improving their ICT security measures and policies.

Luisa Nuka, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, year on year, the use of artificial intelligence grew 1.4 times among households and 1.5 times among enterprises. “This is probably related to the wider availability of AI-based tools and services and their integration into our daily lives. The use of AI increased the most in age group 65–74, where the share of users grew more than twice,” noted Nuka. According to Statistics Estonia's survey on information technology, the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies has risen significantly in 2024 compared with the previous year, and cyber security has become increasingly important. 5% of enterprises used at least one AI technology in 2023, whereas in 2024, this figure has risen to 14%.
