This year’s recipient of the Albert Pullerits young statistician’s prize awarded by Statistics Estonia is Tuuli Jürgenson for her Master’s thesis “Combining Retrospective and Prospective Data for Genome-wide Association Studies”.

According to Statistics Estonia, 29 full-length films were produced in Estonia in 2022. This is four more than in 2021. The number of corporate films has also increased, with a total of 1,773 made last year.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Charting New Frontiers of Official Statistics”. The directors of 40 statistical institutes in Europe discussed why and how national statistical institutes (NSIs) could go beyond the traditional function of producing official statistics, by providing additional data services and serving as data stewards in the national data ecosystem. According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2024, the population of Estonia was 1,366,491, which is 607 persons more than at the same time a year ago. In 2023, there were 10,721 births and 15,832 deaths in Estonia. Based on the data on registered migration, 20,209 persons immigrated to Estonia and 14,491 persons emigrated from Estonia. Compared with a year earlier, the number of births, deaths and immigrants has fallen, while the number of emigrants has risen.
