Statistics Estonia presents today, i.e. on 31 July, the newly published publication “Eesti statistika aastaraamat. 2009. Statistical Yearbook of Estonia“, which gives an overview of the Estonian environment, social and economic life and provides comparisons with other European countries.

Today, on 26 January, in Tallinn, Statistics Estonia holds a seminar on the gender pay gap. The seminar, called “Lahkame lõhet”, presents the results of the pay gap surveys carried out and discusses the gender pay gap both on the global scale and in terms of the situation in Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 847 euros and increased by 6.9% compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year.

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that Estonia's exports were significantly affected by the re-exports of previously imported goods which increased by 30% year on year. “The rise in re-exports was mainly due to transport equipment,” Puura added. Exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 4% compared with February last year, accounting for 65% of total exports. The rise was mainly due to the increased exports of processed fuels and shale oil as well as measuring instruments. Electrical equipment was the top commodity exported in February

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2016, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.6% compared to October 2016 and by 1.5% compared to November 2015.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 2%, while imports were unchanged from the same period last year. Sales of services to non-residents totalled €2.8 billion and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to €2.2 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €595 million, which is €45 million more than a year earlier.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 2% and imports decreased by 8% compared with February 2022. Exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.6 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 103 million euros, down by 167 million euros year on year.

Jane Leppmets, a foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that growth in foreign trade in services was most affected by travel services and other business services. “In the third quarter, exports of services to EU countries increased by 8% and imports from EU countries by 4%. Extra-EU exports of services were also up by 8%, however, extra-EU imports were down by 4%. The latter was mainly affected by a decline in purchases of services from the United States,” Leppmets pointed out. According to the flash estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased by 1.3% in the 2nd quarter of 2013 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.8 billion euros. Compared with the same month in 2022, exports of goods decreased by 22% and imports by 19% at current prices. The trade deficit in in August was 293 million euros, which is 7 million euros less than a year earlier.
