The focus of the global goal “Decent Work and Economic Growth” is to ensure sustainable and environmentally friendly economic growth that would not involve excessive and unsustainable use of resources. Sustainable economic growth helps people escape poverty and find employment. Environmental measures implemented by the state support the development of environmentally friendly consumption and production habits. One of these measures is environmental taxes. Their share in the total tax revenue in Estonia has increased over the years. The purpose of environmental taxes is to mitigate the negative impact of human activity on the environment and to reduce environmental pollution. Examples of environmental taxes are pollution, energy and transport taxes. Statistics on environmental protection funding provide information on environmental protection expenditures

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the Estonian general government deficit was 1% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 335 million euros.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the Estonian general government deficit was 2.4% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 721 million euros.
