According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the at-risk-of-poverty rate of older women was over two times higher than that of older men. 41% of women aged 65 and older and 19% of men of the same age lived in relative poverty.

According to Statistics Estonia, at midnight the e-census of the pilot Census of PHC 2011 came to an end. In the course of e-census, 5497 persons were enumerated via Internet. According to Statistics Estonia, unemployed persons numbered 47,000 and the unemployment rate was 6.9% in the 2nd quarter of 2014. Employment increased compared to the 1st quarter, but decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This shows that Estonia is gradually facing the consequences of declining labour force.

Statistics Estonia announces yet again the competition for the young statistician’s grant named after Albert Pullerits. The aim of the grant is to promote statistics as an important field of science, to encourage students to apply and develop statistical methods and to improve Statistics Estonia’s cooperation with research organisations.

Compared to 2014, labour market indicators improved thanks to the results of the first three quarters, whereas in the 4th quarter the situation changed.
