Statistics Estonia has revised the entire time series of gross domestic product (GDP) starting from 1995. During the revision, updated basic data sources were incorporated and methodological improvements were made.

“Last year, the average number of museum visits per person in Estonia was 1.9. The highest museum attendance was seen in Saare and Lääne counties, where there were respectively 4.1 and 3.9 museum visits per person. In Tallinn, the city with the most museums, the average number of visits per person stood at 2.9. Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that the improvement in Estonian economy continued in the first quarter of 2025. “Compared with the first quarter of 2024, the GDP increased by 1.2%. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP was up by 0.1%,” explained Müürsepp. Statistics Estonia will publish GDP data for the first quarter of 2025 on 30 May . Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that the fourth quarter marked the end of 10 quarters of recession. “The last time the GDP grew was in the first quarter of 2022,” Müürsepp noted. In contrast to previous quarters, the majority of activities had a positive impact on the economy. “The energy sector led the way, with value added increasing by 21%. As at the end of last year, 232,400 cattle, 283,600 pigs, 49,300 sheep and goats, and 2.4 million poultry were kept in Estonia. The number of cattle fell to an all-time low. Ege Kirs, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that meat production in Estonia was up in 2024 due to the 6% increase in pork production. “However, poultry production decreased by 3% and beef production by 5%. Sheep and goat meat production in Estonia remained very low at 400 tonnes. 42,100 tonnes of pork, 22,200 tonnes of poultry meat, and 11,800 tonnes of beef were produced,” Kirs added. According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2024, the population of Estonia was 1,366,491, which is 607 persons more than at the same time a year ago. In 2023, there were 10,721 births and 15,832 deaths in Estonia. Based on the data on registered migration, 20,209 persons immigrated to Estonia and 14,491 persons emigrated from Estonia. Compared with a year earlier, the number of births, deaths and immigrants has fallen, while the number of emigrants has risen.
