According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

Monday, 28 February, marked the end of the second stage of the Population and Housing Census where data were collected from people living at the addresses included in the mandatory sample. In order to provide the crisis commission with a quick overview about whether people are complying with movement restrictions, Elisa, Tele2 and Telia decided to take it upon themselves to analyse the mobility of their clients. The data used for the analysis will be entirely anonymous and not real-time. Statistics Estonia will compile the analyses of the mobile network operators and produce an overview for the whole country. The first results are expected to be available in the coming week. The reason for the new decision is the obligation of the operators to protect personal data and ensure anonymity.
