According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate rose to 15.5% in the 4th quarter of 2009, the annual average unemployment rate was 13.8%. Almost one third of the unemployed have been unemployed for a year or more.

According to Statistics Estonia, 27,989 women and 3,920 men received parental benefit in Estonia in 2019. The average monthly parental benefit paid to men was a third higher than that paid to women.

Today, a team from Statistics Estonia met with the census committee of the Estonian Government to present the questionnaire of the Population and Housing Census 2021 and discuss the current state of the project. In 2021, there were 13,272 births and 18,587 deaths in Estonia. Based on migration data, 19,524 persons immigrated to Estonia and 12,481 persons emigrated from Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2019, the labour force participation rate was 70.8%, the employment rate 67.5% and the unemployment rate 4.7%. The labour force participation rate and the employment rate remained at a similar level compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The unemployment rate, however, decreased by 2.1 percentage points.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in 2020 was nearly 7.7 billion euros. Compared to 2019, turnover increased by 4% at constant prices.
