According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

Elisa, Tele2 and Telia to analyse clients’ mobility themselves

In order to provide the crisis commission with a quick overview about whether people are complying with movement restrictions, Elisa, Tele2 and Telia decided to take it upon themselves to analyse the mobility of their clients. The data used for the analysis will be entirely anonymous and not real-time. Statistics Estonia will compile the analyses of the mobile network operators and produce an overview for the whole country. The first results are expected to be available in the coming week. The reason for the new decision is the obligation of the operators to protect personal data and ensure anonymity.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2020, the labour force participation rate in Estonia was 71.7%, the employment rate was 68.1%, and the unemployment rate was 5%. This week, a high-level delegation from the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) in the United Arab Emirates is visiting Estonia and Statistics Estonia. The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the collaboration in the field of statistics to develop and improve activities related to data-based policy making intended to fulfill the national strategic goals.
