According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the average income of population decreased and the unemployment increased due to the economic crisis, but increased pensions and governmental benefits helped people to prevent the fall in poverty.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the growth of wages and salaries slowed down but the increased pensions and governmental benefits helped to maintain incomes. Therefore the relative poverty remained on the level of 2007.

Instead of the 2024 weights, the 2023 weights were included in the table. Corrections are marked in red. Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that exchange prices of electricity, motor vehicle tax and food products had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in February year on year. “Compared with February 2024, prices have increased across almost all categories of goods and services. According to Statistics Estonia, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 4.7% in 2016 compared to the average of 2015. In the annual comparison, the prices of apartments increased by 4.5% and the prices of houses by 5.4%.

According to Statistics Estonia, Estonian resident consumes 188 grams of potatoes a day, Latvian and Lithuanian residents 274 and 234 grams, respectively. The data are based on the European food consumption database DAFNE (Data Food Networking), which since autumn 2010 also contains data on Estonia.
