The construction price index expresses the change in the cost of construction taking into consideration the price changes of basic inputs. These are divided into three main groups: labour, building materials and building machines. The calculation of the construction price index covers four groups of buildings: detached houses, blocks of flats, industrial buildings and office buildings. Price information is collected by a sample survey covering construction, rental and wholesale companies and retail enterprises in ten cities. The construction price index is published quarterly.

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2013 compared to August of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 6% at constant prices. The increase in sales was mostly influenced by the stores selling manufactured goods, where retail sales increased 12%.

The new Statistical Council held its first meeting today, on 6 February, and elected Professor Tõnu Kollo from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics of the University of Tartu as the chairman of the Council for the next four years.
