According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2019, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments numbered 219,000, which is 4% more than in February 2018. The number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.

The places where people live have been recorded in one way or another for centuries. Previously, the place of registration could have been a church, municipality government, city address board, housing board or the Population Register. In recent decades, developed countries have found that register data are usually more accurate than survey data, and so population censuses have also begun to use them. Back in 2011, eight European Union countries conducted the census on a register basis: in addition to the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Slovenia.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports grew by one percentage point year on year, reaching 64%” added Leppmets. There was a significant rise in trade with non-EU countries. According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,163 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 6.91 euros. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased by 7.6% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries by 4.5%. In the 2nd quarter, the annual growth of average monthly gross wages and salaries was slightly slower than in the 1st quarter of 2016.

Due to the requirements of the Integrated European Social Statistics (IESS) regulation, as of 2021, the Estonian Labour Force Survey is based on a new methodology. The main goal of the changes is to improve data quality. Statistics Estonia will publish the data of the 1st quarter of 2021, calculated according to the new methodology, in its database on 17 May.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 exports of high-tech (HT) goods from Estonia totalled 4.6 billion kroons at current prices and imports of high-tech goods to Estonia amounted to 9.8 billion kroons. The share of HT goods in Estonia’s trade has significantly decreased during the last years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the production of electricity totalled 12 terawatt-hours, which is 17% more than in the previous year. Electricity production from renewable sources decreased 6% compared to 2015.
