At the end of 2024, there were 2.4 million poultry in Estonia. 97% of these were hens and cocks, and the remaining 78,200 were other poultry. Ege Kirs, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that egg production has started to increase again in recent years. “Last year, the poultry laid a total of 11,800 tonnes of eggs. The bulk of egg production comes from a few large farms, which are also the main contributors to production growth and decline,” Kirs noted. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, exports from Estonia amounted to 12.1 billion euros and imports to Estonia to 13.7 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 1.6 billion euros and it increased by 126 million euros compared to 2013.

In comparison with May 2024, the producer price index in this year’s May was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the manufacture of food products. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the exports at current prices decreased 24% and imports 33% compared to 2008. Exports to Finland and Sweden decreased most by the trade value. In the last months of the year the decline in the trade slowed down.
