From 1782 to 1858, 7 countings of the population were organized which could be considered forerunners of modern population censuses. The Statistical Committees, established in Estonia and Livonia in 1863, considered it necessary to conduct censuses according to the principles laid down at international conferences on Statistics. The first population census organized on the basis of these principles took place in the towns of Livonia on 3 March 1867. In 2021, Estonian residents made 575,000 outbound overnight trips, which is 3% more than the year before. The number of overnight domestic trips was nearly 2.3 million – this is 6% more than in 2020. Last year, the expenditures on outbound trips amounted to over 495 million euros and the expenditures on domestic trips to more than 402 million euros.

The volume of industrial production grew by 6.4% last year

According to Statistics Estonia, the total production of industrial enterprises in 2021 was 6.4% bigger than the year before. Of the three main industrial sectors, production increased by 19.2% in energy production and by 6.4% in manufacturing but decreased by 15.7% in mining.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2021, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad increased by 15% year on year. Considering only the Estonian construction market, the growth in construction volume was 16%.

The Tourism Survey provides an overview of travelling of Estonian residents: the number of domestic and outbound overnights trips, purposes and duration of trips, travel arrangements, expenses and the most popular destinations.
