In October, there was an upturn in the turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 886 million euros. Compared with October 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover decreased by 1%.
Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that while turnover volume fell by 4% in September year on year, the decline was slightly slower in October. “The fall in the volume of retail trade turnover in October was mainly due to grocery stores, as their turnover volume decreased by 4% year on year. However, the turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods, which had been in decline for over two years, started to rise again in October and was up by 3% year on year,” noted Pihlak.
Among stores selling manufactured goods, the biggest increase at 18% was registered in the turnover volume of other specialised stores selling predominantly computers and their accessories, books, sports equipment, games, toys, etc. The volume of turnover increased by 9% in stores selling via mail order or the internet, by 4% in pharmacies and stores selling cosmetics, and by 3% in stores selling second-hand goods and non-store retail sale (stalls, markets, and direct sale). Turnover volume decreased by 12% in stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear, by 4% in stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials, and by 3% in other non-specialised stores selling predominantly manufactured goods (e.g. department stores).
The turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel remained at the same level as in October last year.
In October compared with September, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises increased by 6%. According to the seasonally and working-day adjusted data, turnover volume was up by 1%.
In the first ten months of 2024, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises decreased by 4% compared with the same period of the previous year.
