In July, the producer price index of industrial output fell by 2.2%

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 0.3% in July compared with June and by 2.2% compared with July last year.

Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with July 2024, the producer price index was most affected by price decreases in electricity production and in the manufacture of fuel oils.

“Higher prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the manufacture of food products had the opposite effect on the index. Producer prices increased by 1.1% in manufacturing as a whole; prices in the manufacture of food products continued to rise and were up by 5.2% year on year,” added Šokman.

Compared with June, the producer price index in July was mainly influenced by price decreases in electricity production and in the manufacture of electronic products and food products. The index was also influenced by rising prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the manufacture of industrial machinery and equipment.

In July, the export price index fell by 0.6% compared with June. Prices decreased the most for electricity, mining and quarrying, and paper and paper products. The greatest increases were registered in the prices of wood products, rubber and plastic products, and leather products and footwear. Compared with July 2024, the export price index was down by 0.4%.

The import price index declined by 0.3% in July compared with June. The biggest price decreases were recorded for electricity, mining and quarrying, and agricultural products. The prices of clothing, petroleum products and non-metallic mineral products increased the most. Compared with July last year, the import price index fell by 2.5%.
