Sown area of potatoes smaller than ever before

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.

Last year the carriage of passengers and goods declined

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, the number of passengers served by Estonian transport enterprises decreased by 2% and the freight volume in tonnes decreased by 5% compared to the previous year. Passenger traffic volume increased by 6% in passenger-kilometres, but freight turnover fell 15% in tonne-kilometres.

The Estonian economy grew 2.1% in 2014

According to Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia in 2014 increased 2.1% compared to 2013. In the 4th quarter of 2014, the Estonian economy grew 3.0% compared to the 4th quarter of 2013.

In the 4th quarter, there were 7,200 job vacancies

According to Statistics Estonia, there were 7,200 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2014. The number of job vacancies decreased by 15.9% compared to the previous quarter and increased by 13.6% compared to the 4th quarter of 2013.

In 2014 the total profit of the business sector increased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2014 the total profit of the business sector was 3.3 billion euros, which was 3% more than the year earlier. The increase in the business sector’s total profit continued for the fifth year in a row.

Today, on 9 March, Statistics Estonia launches the Household Budget Survey of 2015, which collects data from households on their everyday expenditure and consumption. The previous survey was conducted in 2012.
