According to Statistics Estonia, the Agricultural Census starting in September will provide an in-depth overview of rural economy and will enable to compare Estonian agriculture with that of other European Union countries.

Today, on 16 October, Statistics Estonia holds the opening seminar of the “Increased availability of gender pay gap statistics” project at Swissôtel in Tallinn. It is a subproject of the “Promoting gender equality and work and family life balance” programme of Norway Grants in the period 2009–2014.

According to Statistics Estonia, the Agricultural Census is conducted in Estonia from 1 September to 15 November, in the course of which the data on agricultural production will be collected from nearly 30,000 holdings. For the first time it is possible to participate in the census also via Internet.

According to Statistics Estonia, the production of electricity from renewable sources increased nearly three times compared to the previous year.

Today, on 5 March, Statistics Estonia launched an Internet-based map application, which enables to create thematic maps and perform spatial queries based on the results of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that trade in August was affected by the continued decline in exports and imports in trade with European Union (EU) countries. “Compared with August 2023, exports to EU countries decreased by 3% and imports from EU countries by 8%. At the same time, extra-EU exports were up by 6%,” noted Puura. Today, on 20 October, a conference of Statistics Estonia and the Estonian Statistical Society “Registers and Big Data in Statistics”, presenting the options of using register and big data, will be held in Viljandi.

According to Statistics Estonia, the Farm Structure Survey is being conducted in Estonia since the beginning of September until 15 November. The survey is carried out in all European Union countries and its results provide a basis for determining the development of agricultural policy.

The next population and housing census in Estonia will, for the first time in Estonian history, take place on the basis of registers, i.e. no information is asked from people directly, the results are put together based on the data stored in state databases. This is what gave the census the name Register-Based Population and Housing Census (with the abbreviation REGREL in Estonian).
