Anniversary stamp
On 1 March 2021, Eesti Post will issue a postage stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Estonian statistics.
The stamp, created for Statistics Estonia's 100th anniversary, shows a map of Estonia layered with a bar chart, which refers to the data that Statistics Estonia collects about the country, analyses and publishes as official statistics. On the stamp, there is a grid of data points, which creates structure in our rapidly changing and colourful world. The data describe how Estonia is doing.
Riho Luuse, who is the author of several awarded stamps, designed the postage stamp. “The outline of our country is a recognisable symbol and part of the Estonian identity. The bright horizontal bar chart in the map adds the image a positive dynamic and an idea of measurable Estonia,” explained the author.
The design idea came to Riho Luuse when he browsed the book “Republic of Estonia 100. Statistical Album”, which was published for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in 2018. “The statistical data on different areas of life in Estonia, such as administration, population, natural resources, weather conditions, etc., are compared on the outline map of Estonia. And that’s the way it should be,” added Luuse.
