Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2018, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.3% compared to September and by 2.8% compared to October 2017.

Older persons are becoming more active in the labour market
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.2%, the employment rate was 68.2% and the labour force participation rate was 72%. The unemployment rate remained low and is similar to that of economic boom years. The employment rate and the labour force participation are even higher than during the boom years. Employment of older persons is at a record high.

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2018, the exports and imports of goods both increased by 11% compared to September 2017. The growth in trade was affected the most by an increase in trade in mineral products (fuel additives, motor spirit).

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in October 2018 was 0.5% compared to September 2018 and 4.4% compared to October of the previous year.

This year, the European Social Survey focuses on age discrimination and family formation topics
October marked the beginning of the European Social Survey 2018, organised by the University of Tartu and Statistics Estonia. The survey is conducted in 30 European countries and focuses on such topics as age discrimination, family formation and having children.
