Duties of Director General of Statistics Estonia to be fulfilled by Kaie Koskaru Nelk
Mart Mägi has served as Director General of Statistics Estonia since April 2017. His last day in office will be 7 May. As of 10 May, Mägi will assume the position of Chairman of the Board of AS Eesti Post.
Mart Mägi said that when he joined Statistics Estonia four years ago, he was sure that together it would be possible to make data collection and the use of official statistics easier, more convenient and more beneficial for all stakeholders. “I would like to thank the whole team of Statistics Estonia. These have been interesting and transformative times, and we have had small and big successes. Above all, I am proud that we have been able to offer all stakeholders clearer information for making informed decisions,” said Mägi.
Minister of Finance Keit Pentus-Rosimannus said that under the leadership of Mart Mägi, Statistics Estonia has become a modern and open organisation. “Data accessibility and usability are important when making management decisions. The ability of Statistics Estonia to present important data has certainly also contributed to an overall increase in awareness,” said Pentus-Rosimannus. “Eesti Post will have a strong leader, I wish Mart Mägi every success in his new position.”
A competition to find the next Director General of Statistics Estonia will be announced by the State Secretary on the proposal of the Minister of Finance. The competition will be organised by the Committee for Selection of Top Managers. Until a new Director General is appointed, Kaie Koskaru‑Nelk, Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia, will act in the capacity of Director General.
Kaie-Koskaru Nelk has worked in the public sector for more than 20 years. Prior to working at Statistics Estonia, she was Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance. She has also worked as the head of Finance Department of the Ministry of Culture, head of State Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance, as a financial analyst and division head at the Ministry of Justice, and as a financial analyst at Eesti Pank. In addition, she has chaired the boards of state companies and served as a member of boards and audit committees.
Kaie Koskaru-Nelk received a Master’s degree from the University of Tartu in economic theory and foreign trade in 2001. She has studied IT management at Tallinn University, completed an NLP coaching programme for managers and participated in e-courses of several internationally recognised universities.
