Statistics Estonia upgrades the statistical database

The database upgrade is essentially a newer version of PxWeb, which is one of the most popular statistical database software used by statistical offices.

Until now, there have been two simultaneous statistical databases in use at Statistics Estonia. “We received feedback that users find PxWeb more convenient and reliable compared to the .Stat database, which is why we opted for PxWeb software,” explained Maarja Jämsa, development manager at Statistics Estonia.

The new database PxWeb 2020 includes API functionality. In addition, it allows creating graphs from database tables, which make it easier to understand data. The upgraded database is more user-friendly and with a more modern interface. Navigating between Estonian and English tables is now smoother, as it is possible to switch between them directly.

The old statistical database at pub.stat.ee is removed at the time the new version is released. The second database .Stat will remain available until API queries have been redirected. This will not be completed sooner than by the end of April 2021. In the near future, .Stat API users should transfer to PxWeb APIs and start using the new database.
