Production decreased in most branches of industry

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2020, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 11% compared to January 2019. Production decreased in manufacturing as well as in energy and mining.

Compared to January 2019, the total production in manufacturing decreased by 4%. Among the branches with larger shares, production fell in the manufacture of wood, fabricated metal products and computers and electronic products. Growth was registered in the manufacture of food products and shale oil.

68% of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. According to unadjusted data, the sales of manufacturing production for exports decreased by 3% and to the domestic market by 2%. In January 2020, compared to December 2019, the seasonally adjusted total industrial production decreased by 1% and the production of manufacturing increased by 1%.

Compared to January 2019, the production of electricity decreased by 59% and the production of heat by 25%.

The statistics are based on the questionnaires “Industry”, the submission date of which was 17 February 2020, and “Energy production, sales and fuel consumption”, the submission date of which was 11 February 2020.
