In May, the consumer price index was affected the most by food
Compared to May 2016, goods were 3.8% and services 2.4% more expensive. Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 5.0% and non-regulated prices by 2.8% compared to May of the previous year.
Compared to May 2016, the consumer price index was affected the most by the 6.1% more expensive food and non-alcoholic beverages, which contributed more than 40% of the total growth of the index. Milk, dairy products and eggs were 8.6%, fruit 11.7% and sugar and confectionery 7% more expensive than a year earlier. Motor fuel contributed nearly a fifth of the total growth of the index. Compared to May 2016, diesel fuel was 14.9% and petrol 9.8% more expensive. A greater impact was made also by alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which were respectively 3.6% and 14.5% more expensive than a year earlier.
In May, compared to April, the consumer price index was also affected the most by food. Fruit were 9.4% and meat and meat products 1.9% more expensive than a month earlier. A greater impact on the change of the index was made also by the less expensive motor fuel. In May, petrol was 3% and diesel fuel 3.5% less expensive than in April.
