In September, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
Compared to September 2015, the number of tourists having used the services of accommodation establishments increased by 21,000. The number of foreign and domestic tourists increased by 7% and 13%, respectively. Foreign tourists accounted for nearly two-thirds of the total number of tourists. In September 2016, a total of 169,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments – this was 11,000 foreign tourists more than in September 2015. 39% of the foreign tourists came from Finland, while Germany and Russia each accounted for 8% and Latvia for 7% of the foreign tourists. 66% of the accommodated foreign tourists came to Estonia for holidays, 28% were on a business trip and the rest had some other reason for visiting Estonia. Foreign tourists mainly preferred the accommodation establishments of Tallinn (72% of the accommodated foreign tourists), Pärnu city (8%), Tartu city (6%) and Ida-Viru county (3%).
In September, domestic tourists having used the services of accommodation establishments numbered 88,000, i.e. 10,000 domestic tourists more than in September of the previous year. 59% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 30% on a business trip. 30% of the domestic tourists having used accommodation services stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 12% in Pärnu county and another 12% in Tartu county, 9% in Ida-Viru county and 8% in Lääne-Viru county.
In September, 1,128 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 21,000 rooms and 48,000 beds were available for tourists. 45% of the rooms and 33% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 37 euros or a euro more than a year earlier. The average cost of a guest night was 43 euros in Harju county, 31 euros in Tartu county, 30 euros in Ida-Viru county and 29 euros in Pärnu county.
