Statistics Estonia was acknowledged with the international Esri SAG award for successful using of the Geographical Information Systems during the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

One of the biggest GIS software producers in the world Esri recognised Statistics Estonia with the Esri SAG (Special Achievement in GIS) award for successful using of the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) during the recent Population and Housing Census.

“This is a very big acknowledgement as the award is given to the organisation whose achievements in introducing the GIS technology and in its development have been especially outstanding and established a precedent,” said Ms Kreet Masik, Leading Specialist of the Electronic Preparation and Geographical Information Systems Service of Statistics Estonia.

The GIS technology related to various map applications were used in different stages of the Population and Housing Census. “This was used for the first time in recruiting enumerators, in the e-Census, interview census, data arrangement as well as in Census management,” explained Ms Masik.

The award will be bestowed today, on 25 July at the Esri International User Conference in San Diego, USA. Further information on the award of Esri Special Achievement in GIS is available at the address: www.esri.com/sag.
