In September a lot of tourists stayed in accommodation establishments

In September, 151,000 foreign tourists or 71% of the total number of tourists using the services of accommodation establishments stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia. 13,000 tourists came from Russia. The number of tourists from Russia among the clients of accommodation establishments has increased rapidly during the year. September was not an exception, when 47% more tourists came from Russia compared to September of the previous year. 71% of tourists from Russia used the services of accommodation establishments of Tallinn, 12% of Ida-Viru county and 5% of Tartu county. More than 8,000 tourists came from the United Kingdom, and compared to September of the previous year their number doubled. The main tourism partner country of Estonia is continually Finland. 62,000 tourists or 41% of the total number of foreign tourists using the services of accommodation came from Finland.

In September, 61,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 8% more than in the same month of the previous year. 47% of accommodated domestic tourists were on holiday and 39% on a business trip. Harju, Tartu and Pärnu counties were the most favoured destinations for domestic tourists, but they also liked to stay in accommodation establishments of Ida-Viru county.

In September, 915 accommodation establishments or 16% less than in a high tourism month July provided services for tourists. 18,500 rooms and 42,000 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 44% and the bed occupancy rate 33%. Compared to July the room occupancy rate decreased 19 and the bed occupancy rate 22 percentage points.

The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 30 euros being two euros more expensive compared to September 2010.
