Statistics Estonia will recruit 90 data processing operators for the Population Census

According to Statistics Estonia, today, on 23 September at 9.00 a.m. a job competition will be opened for recruiting 90 data processing operators for the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

“The task of data processing operators is to arrange and process the data collected during the Population Census,” said Ms Palmi Lindjärv, Human Resources Manager of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011). The applicants can apply for data processing operators until 23 October and operators will start work on at the data processing centre locating in Tallinn on 15 December.

The applicant must be computer-literate, know the Estonian language at least at intermediate level of proficiency, be at least 18 years of age and have at least secondary education. More detailed information is available at /uudised/population-census.

Operators have flexible working hours between 7.00 a.m. and 22.00 p.m. “This mean that the job can be done also besides other job according to schedule,” added Ms Lindjärv.

For conducting PHC 2011, Statistics Estonia has planned to recruit over 2,400 persons: 15 district heads, 25 personnel employees, 132 supervisors of enumerators, 90 data processing operators and 2,200 enumerators (incl. 200 enumerators on-call time). By now, competitions for the recruitment of district heads and personnel employees have ended successfully.

The next job competition will be announced on 3 October when 2,200 enumerators will be recruited for the Population Census.

In Estonia, the Population and Housing Census will be carried out from 31 December this year until 31 March next year. The electronic Population and Housing Census or e-census, where the permanent residents of Estonia can fill out questionnaires on the Internet, will take place during the first month (31.12.2011–31.01.2012). Those who do not participate in the e-census will be visited by enumerators in the period 16.02–31.03.2012.

In 2011 the Population Census will be conducted for the eleventh time in the territory of Estonia. Previous censuses were carried out in 1881, 1897, 1922, 1934, 1941, 1959, 1970, 1979, 1989 and 2000. In 2010 and 2011 Population and Housing Censuses will be held in the majority of countries all over the world.
