Life in Estonia during one statistical day

Tomorrow, on 20 October the World Statistics Day is celebrated for the first time under the auspices of the United Nations. In addition to the conference taking place tomorrow, Statistics Estonia has provided an overview about the life in Estonia during one statistical day.

During one statistical day, the following events took place in 2009:

43 children were born, of which 21 girls and 22 boys;

44 persons died;

21 abortions were induced;

15 marriages and 9 divorces were registered;

13 persons emigrated from Estonia and 11 immigrated to Estonia;

the number of museum attendance was 6,107, that of the theatre — 2,394 and of the cinema — 4,715;

5,882 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, of which 2,100 domestic and 3,782 foreign tourists;

490,255 passengers used buses, trolley-buses or trams in internal road transport;

4 traffic accidents with casualties took place;

4.7 million mobile calls were made and 600,548 short messages were sent;

132 offences were registered, of which 65 thefts and 3 drug offences;

23 fires took place;

8 new dwellings were completed.

 

For the World Statistics Day, a number of events is organised on the initiative of national statistical offices (http://unstats.un.org/unsd/wsd/).
