In July less tourists in accommodation establishments than a year ago

In spite of the big cultural event taking place in Estonia at the beginning of July, Song and Dance Celebrations, which enlivened domestic tourism and brought many tourists from neighbouring and faraway countries to Estonia, 22% less domestic tourists and 2% less foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments. In July 100,000 domestic tourists and 217,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments. In accommodation establishments of Tallinn, where almost half of all accommodated tourists stayed, in July the number of tourists stayed on the level of the previous year. In Lääne and Põlva counties the number of tourists in accommodation establishments slightly increased, in other counties decreased.

Compared to June, the beginning month of the tourist season, in July the number of tourists increased remarkably — 42%. In previous years, the growth has been around 35%. In July compared to the previous month, more tourists from all major partner countries arrived — from Finland, Germany, Sweden, Russia and Latvia. In July compared to June, 24,000 more domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments.

975 accommodation establishments with 19,600 rooms and 44,500 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 52%. The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 435 kroons, which was 6% cheaper compared to July of the previous year. The average cost of a guest night was the highest in Tallinn (on average 499 kroons), but here too the average cost of a guest night was by 60 kroons cheaper compared to July of the previous year.
